Laying the foundation for a successful S/4HANA transformation
Laying the foundation for a successful S/4HANA transformation
The early morning of February 16th, 2021, marked the successful completion of the last and final go-live step of the first two roll-out companies, E.ON Energie Deutschland (EDG) and E.ON SE. After only one year of development and deployment time, the commercial processes of the two pilots are live on the new, financial core based on SAP S/4 HANA technology. The success was delivered by a program team of E.ON colleagues from all over the group supported by selected experts from SAP and BCG Platinion. This template will be the foundation for E.ONs commercial processes in the years to come.
In late 2019, E.ON decided to take on a big challenge – to upgrade and consolidate its existing ERP system to SAPs new S/4HANA technology by the end of 2025; in parallel to the ongoing integration of the innogy group. In fact, it is more than a mere technology upgrade – the overarching ambition is to harmonize processes and systems across the group and move closer to the SAPs standard to ease maintenance efforts, foster collaboration and allow an easy rollout of further system evolutions. Ultimately the implementation of S/4HANA thereby contributes to the integration of innogy.
“After only one year the development of the minimal viable product (MVP) has been completed and successfully rolled out.”
After only one year the development of the minimal viable product (MVP) has been completed and successfully rolled out the two pilot units E.ON Energie Deutschland (EDG) and E.ON SE – in time, on budget, and with high quality.
The overwhelming success was made possible by an Agile program team of approx. 300 E.ON employees from all over the group only supported by a few experts from SAP and BCG Platinion. Utilizing an Agile approach based on SAP’s Activate methodology with empowered teams proved to be crucial to stay on track throughout the prolonged period of lockdown due to COVID-19.
By 2025, all 400+ fully consolidated company codes of E.ON will be moved on the new template, providing a digital and robust foundation for E.ONs commercial processes in the years to come. The high standard adherence and harmonization will enable a highly industrialized and efficient rollout to those units.
This Insight from a joint project was written by experts from E.ON, SAP and BCG Platinion.
